The “coating” is a simply a film of oil (eg canola or vegetable oil). Dropped a star because of damage. For really stuck-on food, scrub with salt and oil, rinse and wipe clean. If you’re happy to do that and do it properly then you’ll be very happy with this griddle!

Lovely product hence 4 stars. Dry the pan and coat with a thin layer of oil.

Read how this works and how to do it. Store until ready to use. Also that gas on full gets displaced so now our white hob control knobs are permanently scorched. All the negative reviews saying it rusted it’s down to people not understanding that you cannot put cast-iron in a dishwasher or leave it out to dry.

Lovely flavour to the food good heat distribution. I’ve used this half a dozen times now for meat, veg and chicken and a large burner outside and had very good results. First use was quite upsetting. Those who are giving this 1* or bad reviews saying it rusts or the coating comes off clearly have not read the instructions and don’t know how cast iron cookware works!

How to clean:Rinse with warm water and use a brush or scraper to remove stuck-on bits. Not an aluminimum stuff what you can feel in it's weight. Hope this helps others as it’s a lovely product otherwise The main thing is the cleaning.

This is a cast iron skillet it gets very hot you need a very good gas flame under it. All cast iron needs to be seasoned with an oil. It shouldn’t be cleaned with soap and certainly not in a dishwasher!
