A vanished world (I hope). I enjoyed the stories and anecdotes about life in the convent, the nuns, the nurses and the situations they encountered. I find it heart-warming; it's so nice to watch something where people don't get shot, nothing explodes and people just go about their daily lives and deal with their problems with the help of the midwives and nuns. Some reviews indicated that they had gotten all four.

Very happy to get the complete boxed set of these books for my birthday. Either you have watched 'Call the Midwife' on TV and you will enjoy the book as a background or you will buy the book and then try and watch the TV series. Call the Midwife is a favorite tv show and I look forward to reading the stories the show is based on.

I bought this book because I have loved the TV series based on the book. I have to say it is probably mainly a book for women as it deals with - as the title says -midwifery and therefore babies and births and medical complications as well as women's home lives in the '50s and '60s. Was a bit disappointed that the books showed up wrapped in plastic and NOT is the box that is depicted on the listing.
Haven’t read the books yet but the show is a delight. Some of the stories I could really relate to, as my birth year is not so far from some of periods described in the book.
