To solve this you need an M8 locking nut - ones with a nylon lining at one end. In use they are very good and cut nicely, but now not so sure about longevity, perhaps I should have bought Fiskars or Gardena make instead. Something I found was with the adjuster broken the nut securing the two halves of the shears comes loose and they can come apart.
