Abuse and neglect in childhood create a social debt that everyone ends up paying for in some way. Maria’s repeated suicide attempts, self-cutting, drug involvement, and inability to accept kind treatment stem from her belief that everything her father tells her is true and she is worthless, fat, ugly, and no one will ever love her but him.

This story is an echo that wails through the life of every prostitute who ends up on the street by being manipulated and belittled by brutal treatment as a child. Turning a deaf ear to candid stories like this will not protect society from crime, violence, lost opportunities and the creativity that could make itself manifest in every child who is treated as an object by adults. I leave the intriguing ending of the book in the next reader’s hands so as to have it fresh and unknown.

This woman should be given the Nobel Prize for her efforts and determination to be {The BEST MOM EVER} brought out feelings I haven’t felt for many years. For a child to be treated as trash like she was, and still fight to be a better person and a Mother for her sons - in her efforts SHE EXCELLED where others would have given up. This book is well worth reading for the insight it provides into the minds of seemingly tough little street girls and women who are willing to risk their lives each time they step into the vehicle of a stranger who may be the one who is a murderer.

When he is in prison Maria and her brother are sent from foster homes to institutions. If anyone that has children - most do, I feel your perspective on life’s challenges Can Strengthen you beyond logical reasoning. Maria’s psychopathic father spends time in jail regularly for crimes other than what he inflicts on his children.
