Lynda La Plante manages to capture so much in this book - corrupt police, drug abuse, robbery, romance, marriage, affairs and death with the focus still invovling a very naive WPC. I look forward to reading the next in the series (Hidden Killers) and seeing how this book has toughened Jane up.

It was a time when female police officers were not treated equally. Whilst this book is large (over 500 pages) it was extremely easy to read and the story was engaging.

I absolutely loved this book, it had me hooked instantly. The story cleverly intertwines these stories to lead to a very sad ending to book one and one I did not expect. I’m excited to jump into book two now.

I was fully immersed in this story and the ending blew my mind I didn’t see that coming at all! I really liked Jane, from the start you can see that she is tough and has her own mind and she wants to succeed.

Jane Tennison is a probationary officer and this book delivers numerous different plot lines. In modern days, it did upset me the way female police women were treated and the male policemen came across as misogynistic pigs, but I imagine this portrayed very accurately what happened in the 1970’s. I liked that Jane had a friend and an ally in Kath.

Just when you think this book is coming to a close, an unexpected plot twist occurs that I did not see coming. I really liked the setting back in 1973 in London and the fashion descriptions. I had not seen prime suspect so this was my first introduction to Jane Tennison and whilst she was a bit wimpy at times I am looking forward to her character development.

I am new to both Prime Suspect and Lynda La Plante, don’t come at me. I found it hard to put down. ! 🙈Over the next twelve months I am taking part in #teamtennison where I am reading the back catalogue of the Tennison novels until the final one is released next July.
