I've long been a fan of Louise Candlish's writing and this is her best novel so far (for me. Not with anyone else, just me arguing with myself.

The reader has to decide whether Ellen is acting rationally and what they would do in the same situation! I love a slow burning psychological thriller where the truth is gradually revealed and this is one of the best. Throughout the plot, it is clear that she is continually teetering on the edge of jumping into the void that Lucas’s death has left.

And what about Ellen vengeance plan? At the start of the book the reader is told that Ellen, mother of nineteen year old Lucas has supposedly killed his friend Kieran. Is it Lucas the golden boy that everyone believes he is?

We have read many books based on love, friendship, relationships. The Heights is due to be published on 1st September 2021 and you can get a copy here. I thought that the way Louise Candlish pieced all of this together was superbly clever and was what kept the tension taut throughout.

This is the first book I've read by this author so I'm excited to go back and read all her other books now. I'd hit a minor reading lull before choosing this title from my (extensive) TBR shelf. A couple of years ago I read Louise's book Our House and I thoroughly enjoyed it even thought I am not a person who reads psychological thrillers on regular basis.
Sparkly Word
Candlish continues to weave these human themes throughout a suspenseful and surprising narrative, building tension alongside deep and probing character studies. She was sure he got read of him, when she killed him. Imagine bumping into someone you thought to be dead?
