Been looking at this particular jig for some time, so was nice to pick one up. I prefer to hide the screws, it just makes a nicer looking deck, plus less places for water to sit. Only makes sense.

If your wood is wet, which it often is, using a 1/4" space, when they wood dries out you could have a gap that is much bigger than you like. It is a good kit and I would gladly recommend. This little tool is wonderful to help guide my placement.

This is such a handy helper for me. As the boards have aged, these have become little hazards - slicing bare feet on occasion, jsut scratching them on others. Overall, it actually seems sturdier and more robust than their other products.

That said, it is great for anyone who is building a deck, or anything with adjacent boards - it is a wonderful way to place nail heads between the boards rather than atop them. But, am super glad I have it now and if i EVER hear of someone I know building a deck - I am gifting them this.
