I like the variety of colors overall, but I do think there are a couple hues that are really similar to one another. I notice I can find colors far quicker and more easily with the old Staedtler Karat design. The main reason I got the larger set was because it seemed to have a better selection of earth tones and neutrals, which is important for me personally; otherwise, I would have gone with a smaller set.

One of the frustrating things about buying premium stuff off Amazon is how the seller/fulfillment team seems to not care. not a good delivery). This was meant to be a last minute gift, and as such I didn't have the luxury of returning it, compounding my disappointment further. When you're paying 4 grand for a box of pencils you expect them to be in great shape and packed meticulously, not in a flimsy plastic envelope as this one was.

I was aware this was a high quality product before I bought it, and I wasn't disappointed. There are a number of other techniques for these pencils and a good YouTube video can be found by searching 'Watercolour pencil techniques by Tim Fisher 'They are a first class product. I'm excited to use these going forward to add detail to my paintings before washing over them with water. Although the metal tin for the product is nice, mine came with a metal dent and the envelope it came in was opened (everything seemed intact otherwise and non-counterfeit, but it was.

Colors can lay down very vivid or very subtly depending on how much pigment you lay on the page. The pencils sharpen well, hold their edge without breaking and go on smooth.

In terms of the watercolor pencils themselves, they activate and reactivate pretty easily, though to what extent depends on the colors. I used this for the fine details of my watercolor Robin painting. These pencils are also less expensive. .
