Picked up this Hori compact controller to try and eliminate some of those issues and, to be fair, it has done exactly what I wanted. Slightly rounded grips, extra assignable button on the back of each controller (which I set to L3/R3 to avoid having to click the sticks in).

Would highly recommend. Haven't used the Switch for a while and went back to it for the new Zelda game.

Not much larger than the original joycon controllers but way more ergonomic. Sticks and buttons are at an angle to each other (rather than vertically in line) so it feels more natural to hold and switch thumb positions.
