The cast are well-drawn, realistic and sympathetic. The shortish chapters make it a fast paced read. The other children who've been evacuated with him all have their own ways of responding to the upheaval and they don't always behave in the way Jimmy expects.

It made me smile, it made me laugh, it made me cry but most of all it made me have all the feels. When you finish a book with tears in your eyes you know you’ve been fully invested and the book has captured your heart.

At the start of the Second World War, Jimmy Travers and his younger brother Ronnie are evacuated from London to the village of LLanbryn in Wales. The backstories are very moving and I'm very excited for my next Lesley Parr read! 🏴A beautiful setting, real people, real stories and an author who brings it all to life. I received an e-ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
Chelley Toy - TalesOfYesterday
Florence is an incredibly sympathetic and gutsy character who has had to deal with a lot in her young life, yet grasps the opportunities and fresh start given to her with both hands. Whilst young Ronnie settles quickly to his new family and life, Jimmy finds it much more difficult and feels that he doesn’t belong.
