But the ongoing philosophical banter is clearer with subtitles. 6th February 2024 got me buying Barbie with me veg in Supermarket. Barbie might be one of those rare instances where if you are seriously deliberating between the two then the blu-ray might be the better option. Me being the ‘weird and ugly’ not the ‘brainwashed.

DVD going for seven thought I’d succumb to the hype. You can see in the images above how much more punch the 4K colour has, however the differences between the blu-ray and the 4K are much more subtle than I was expecting. Glad I did. I know, a different level.

Yes the HDR of the 4K is going to stand above the standard blu-ray every time. I love it so much so happy HEY BARBIE / HEY KEN 🩷🩵

I've attached comparison images between the 4K blu-ray and standard blu-ray to show the differences in quality between the two discs included. ’ Whilst it may believe it’s self-awareness time it falls short on seeing the money system that grinds you into something else. If you’re an audio purist then definitely go with the 4K blu-ray. I admit the last half hour I struggled to keep up with Ken & Co.

But I think ‘Wings of Desire’ is far more engaging at approaching the deepest life questions. In that movie an angel wants to become a human, wants to smell the coffee on a cold morning outside. For audio on the 4K disc, we get a reference quality TrueHD Dolby Atmos track, which is outstanding to listen to.

But using fire to fight fire works really well with Barbie. The standard blu-ray instead opts for DTS-HDFor packaging. the blu-ray wins points over the 4K, as it’s packaged inside a bright Barbie pink Amaray case which gives it that premium “I’m a smash hit blockbuster” aesthetic whereas the 4k disappointingly comes in the traditional all black 4K headed Amaray case.

Visually the differences aren’t all that noticeable, and the packaging is far superior with the blu-ray. All being said, the question here is which you buy rather than if you buy. Whether you buy it on standard blu-ray or 4K blu-ray, this is a must buy and I’m very satisfied with the presentation of both versions of the movie.
