i upgraded to this lens from a 70-300 lens that I've used for five years with a D90. I quickly realized that wasn't going to happen if I wanted a quality lens. I put the lens to the test during the recent East Coast Surfing Championship and have gone head over heals with the quality of the shots I took. 8 which is twice as heavy and is hit and miss with the focus, even after calibrating it but this lens is spot on every time and is a permanent fixture on my camera now.

Great daylight, outdoor sports, travel lens on my Nikon D3 and D5. Versatile zoom range. There is nothing to dislike about this lens, im using it on a Nikon D7100 with great results.

Tripod collar was discontinued later on during production life span and is not needed or recommended for use use on heavy Nikon FX cameras or any other Nikon camera. This is money well spent. 5.
