It isn’t as intense as some of his others, but a great read all the same. Swanson’s writing style neatly builds up each character’s backstory until all the connections are transparent, and then he hits you with a twist. Henry is now working as a private detective, when an old student from Henry’s short time spent as a teacher, walks into his office asking him to follow her husband.

She meets another teenager, a meeting of minds, if you like, which starts a very dark and twisted tale of events. As the book flips between the two timelines, we read as events unfold in both storylines.

I liked Lily's character and her development in this book from the last, but I didn't like Joan because she got everyone else to do things for her and didn't do much herself. Quite dark in places but with the author’s usual appealing writing style and vivid dialogue. He witnesses the husband and the mistress being murdered. It mimics TKWK in a lot of ways : having a male and female partnership who meet by coincidence and share the same views so act on them because no one knows of their connection, killers who think it is justified, victims that fit the same criteria, etc.

Joan Grieve, now Whalen, is a memory from Kimball’s previous career. Lily’s dad made me lol a few times.

I would highly recommend this book! Meanwhile entertaining the reader with clever limerick poems from Henry Kimball. I’m a huge fan and could not wait for this book to come out! Joan suspects that her real estate broker husband is sleeping with her friend.

He is desperate for cases so when a familiar woman hires him to investigate her husband, he quickly takes the case. Perfect condition and Timely Delivery The Kind Worth killing is my all-time fave Swanson, but this is a stellar sequel. I loved the twist, it was definitely not something I was expecting.
