I have to get a cover because the previous rectangular thermostat left an imprint and a big hole in the wall that the round Nest thermostat by itself cannot cover up. Although the 4 lugs on the back don’t match the holes in the stat ring slightly, I had to cut the outer edge of each lug so it fitted perfectly onto the back of the stat (See pic). Looks factory.

Needs a bit of tweaking to get a flush mount of the 3rd gen. Easy to install and worked perfectly and seamlessly with the Nest (white) for a nice clean look.

Initially, I actually bought the POPMAS cover also on Amazon for my Nest instead of this elago one. I ended up having to return the POPMAS cover and buying this elago one instead because I don't have a drill around my place.

It does leave finger marks, but once it’s fitted, wipe it clean and you never touch the actual back plate, so it remains shiny and clean. That square metal plate that comes with Nest is optional, but it is useful for adapting to the old drill holes on the wall rather than having to drill new holes.

Really good replacement of the original one. However, that POPMAS cover unfortunately does not have the recess space in its wall-facing side, and so if you use the square metal plate underneath it, there will be a 2-3 mm gap between the cover and the wall.
