Immaculate timing for the chance to try out another fine wine as it arrived for the annual street BBQ, making it a McGuigan-themed night with a trio of award-winning wines; the other two being the silky smooth red & the fresh & crisp white.

Founder Brian McGuigan adopted the central symbol of the family crest, the lion, to reflect inspiration & the McGuigan's enduring spirit & passion for producing great quality Australian wine. Well-rounded with a smooth, mouth-filling finish, it is a perfect accompaniment to most dishes, especially tomato-based Italian and red meats. Some liked it at room temperature, others preferred it after a spell in the fridge and several liked it made into a fruity, ice-cubed sangria which went down as quickly as the sun, with pud; a slice of Black Forest gâteau sided up with a little clotted cream. Although the weather wasn't fantastically warm for celebrating the middle of summer, this wine went down very well with a neighbourly natter over char-grilled steaks, chilli pasta or chunky vegetable kebabs, as the elusive sun finally appeared.
