I have noticed that some reviewers are complaining about slow charge times. Overall I’m very happy with the charger.

The 10m version that I bought is pretty bulky but mine will mostly stay with the charge controller safely under cover in my garage with the charger cable running up my drive to the car's charger socket. If I was an owner of a full EV then I would opt for the 7kWh charger as this makes more sense. On the odd occasion that I need to charge my PHEV faster I pop it down to the local supermarket that has four 7kWh chargers that cost 44p/kWh. The mains cord to the three pin mains socket is good enough and the moulded plug is good enough with a proper fuse.

It will charge a full EV but it will take a long time (get a 7kWh charger installed instead). This has definitely been designed to meet UK electrical standards.

If you spend around £1k you can by yourself a 7kWh charger (inc installation) that is going to charge an average PHEV in around 2 hours. The cable from the charger out to the EV plus is solid and the plug is very good quality. 1kWh to an EV/PHEV. If you are happy to charge overnight then this charger will charge your PHEV from 10% to full in around 6 hours.

Only just taken delivery of the Masterplug Chargepoint Home EV charger. To sum up this charger is great if you want to fully charge a PHEV with a 14kWh battery (or thereabouts) overnight from around 10% charge.

The inline charger is made out of a high density plastic but as it doesn't have any rubber bumpers etc it's going to get scuffed up in use. I will measure plug temperatures to ensure that it is not overheating and I have ordered a BS 1363-2 EV mains socket to be installed that is specifically designed to be used with this type of charger. The supermarket is a relatively short walk from home plus I get a bit of exercise.

There have been no problems with overheating and as it is connected to 13amp fused spur I’m confident it is 100% safe. UPDATE: all installed in a fixed position and have added a Kasa smart plug that has power monitoring so I can keep an eye on how much charge is being used by the car plus I can switch the charger on and off without opening the garage door.
