In the mean time I'm sticking to Western Digital, a name that's been around for donkeys years, and is by far not the most expensive drive out there. . If your prepared to exchange for working models, or just risk that it will work first time every time, good luck, and I don't blame you.

This was the third external HD in a line of failing Hard Drives. That doesn't necessarily mean price, but certainly means named brands.
The first two disk I bought where OK, came with there own backup software, but failed within days, and one within hours or receiving them. If you want to risk it with a clone Taiwanese copy then be my guest, but the question you need to ask is "How much is my time worth". All faulty disks where returned with a promise of a full refund so I can't really complain, but one thing that this whole show has taught me, something I'd forgotten, is you get what you pay for.
There are some good savings to be had, and I have all faith in the companies that they will refund or exchange faulty goods.
