I'm not a sci fi fan, in fact this is the first sci fi book I've ever read. Unfortunately, the copy I got was missing 32 pages. [Update: the partial copes should have been replaced. I couldn't put this book down, I engaged with the characters and the plot and recommend it to others.

]I highly recommend buying this book once this problem is fixed or in Kindle format. As far as a synopsis goes, I cannot sufficiently describe the awesomeness that is this book, and I do hope what I've typed out so far makes do. I downloaded it really quickly before I lost my signal on a train so that I had something to read and was amazed by how quickly I became hooked.

the world building is so interesting and after i read the book i ordered the next 2❤️ ] The next two books in the series are terrific too. i usually hate sci fi but ordered this book because of a recommendation on the (excellent) podcast smart bitches trashy books. What I loved most about the book is that all the main characters were thoroughly explored, their backstories, their personality, how they dealt with difficulties both ship-related, as well as those to do with their personal and professional relationships.

Becky Chambers gets you to really care about the characters, including an AI named Lovelace. I reported it to Amazon and tweeted about it to HarperVoyager.

I feel like I would have eased into the experience more smoothly, and enjoyed it a lot more. [Book 4 may have been the best one yet! I wish, though, that I went into the book not expecting a big plot, and also actually knowing what a space opera is. They sent me a complete replacement copy and promised to check out the problem.
