I quickly stumbled upon the Sonos Play:1 which stood out as having a lot of positive reviews. It came very well packaged and has a great weighty build quality. Finally the all important sound quality.

The Play 1 is as easy to set up as all the other Sonos products I've tried -- just download the control software to your PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad or Android mobile and follow the on-screen instructions. I absolutely love music and great sound around the house and have purchased all models nearly now for every room in the house including the kitchen and Bathroom.

The most dramatical advantage of SONOS is the controller app. I appreciate that technology has moved on and this should be the better system, but I did quite a lot of research into this before purchasing. SONOS PLAY:1 Smart Wireless Speaker, White

It will also let you add all of your streaming music services into the app so that everything can be done from there rather than having to switch between apps. Definitely I will change all my BOSE speakers with SONOS This is easy with the app. Spotify, Amazon Cloud Player, Google Music, 7Digital, Deezer, Soundcloud, Napster and more: the list goes on.

Setup is simple, plug it it, switch it on, then download the Sonos controller app on your smartphone. I like the design a lot: there's a black version that I have in the bedroom and personally think looks nicer with the silver speaker grille than the white model. I have a couple of BOSE Soundtouch 10s at home and can compare the two brands head to head. It is crispier as you can adjust the highs and lows.

I set about looking for an Airplay compatible speaker that could stream my music collection from my Mac. It's perfect for what I wanted. One is that they are basically mini-computers that stream music directly from loads of different online services without the need for a phone, computer or NAS box to be turned on. The Play one sound quality is very punchy and clear and can fill a large room with sound.

I have compared all the models and they do get better as the range goes up, as you'd expect, but because this is the base model does not mean it is the poorer model. I decided that music was the best option as it would also facilitate the garden during the summer. I can say that they both have a very good performance for that size of speaker.
