I’ve never ever been there, but I was truly there in my head and could see it all, and now I want to go in real life. I would say that writing such as this must stem from the author’s own love for the place and knowledge of it, and Harris is as much of a character in, and importance to, this novel as Nell, Dougie, Florence or anyone else, such is the strength of the sense of place within Little Wing. The different characters coming together was just purity in itself.

It is beautiful written and I am also really drawn to the Isle of Harris and want to find out more about it! It’s been a good while between her previous one and the publication of Little Wing, but oh my goodness it has been so worth the wait, because this one surpasses everything that has gone before. Memorising.

Thank you Freya! I feel as though I've just returned from the Isle of Harris (Outer Hebrides, UK) so vividly portrayed and intricately researched is the setting of this novel. Over in Colchester, Nell is finding life challenging. This emotional and powerful story of the two different families across different generations explores the concepts of love, family and acceptance, but it is also about personal strength, about resilience, and about knowing – or finding – the place in the world we are meant to be.
