Turner

Curtius is adept and passionate about his work; what he conjures with an array of tools and a talented eye instantly spark an intrigue in Marie. I thought she was feisty, determined, intelligent and compelling person who lived a fascinating life. There were many amusing anecdotes woven into the story that I was surprised to find were facts and not things embellished for histrionic entertainment.

Emma's Biblio Treasures

This contrast will later prove to be the soul of Madame Tussaud’s museum. Though we were born over 200 years apart there are some similarities between us that helped me forge an immediate connection to Marie: I was born a similar tiny size, it was predicted I wouldn’t live and our heights are roughly the same. Rich.

458 pages over the last week or so and could happily have read double that. I don’t think I’m read such a fascinating book in a long while.

The booktrail

I didn’t just read this book, I experienced it. Words can not do this novel justice, which is odd given that it’s the words in the novel which make this amazing story even more of a treat. How she sees the world….

She captures a small corner of his heart. It had me transfixed. This really was a book you need to buy in print to fully experience its magic. The business burgeons but their hopes of it growing any larger are swiftly scuppered when Dr.

Marie’s first impression of the city are raw and visceral. When I started this book all I knew about Madame Tussaud was that that it’s the name of the wax museum in London and Blackpool. A magnificent work of historical fiction that I found all-consuming and enjoyed so much that I took my time reading so I could savor it for as long as possible. Scintillating.

It was such a uniquely written and descriptive novel that it felt like Anna Marie Gresholtz had been telling me her story. Edward Carey writes with rich, evocative prose, following the life of this character in such a way that will leave you aghast. I also get called ‘little’, although for me it’s part of an affectionate nickname and isn’t used instead of my name like in the story.
