The fit is perfect, it’s not sloppy. I DO wish the plate was a little bigger so the holes would be a little more spaced out. I guess that would require more material and would drive the price up though.

Finding wood dowels outside of oak, pine and poplar isn’t easy or cheap. If it were the tool's job, it would have to be a massive chunk of steel. I've provided some images of some coaster bases (maple) with "hardwood" store bought dowels.

This is exactly what i wanted, it is in my bench now and it it very well made and a very nice fit and finish. IMO this is a quality product. Luckily I only needed 1” lengths. I made some 3/8 pins of red oak and tested how they would fit in a 3/8 hole drilled with a Forstner bit.

I believe that reviewers complaining about dowels not coming out straight don't understand the nature of this tool. This not only has a competitive price (looking at you lie nieslen) but also more options.

And being sized in 1/16” increments makes dowels fit snugly with no glue line. Very accurate and I would I highly recommend.
