Febond Blue Grit is a high-performance plasterers grip coat bonding agent specifically designed to provide an improved key to smooth surfaces. FEBSET 45 provides a repair material for concrete slabs which reaches an adequate strength for trafficking, or other use, at a very early age. Containing a fine aggregate, it provides a mechanical key to backgrounds such as plaster, concrete, painted surfaces, textured surfaces and ceramic tiles.
Simple to apply by roller or brush.
Stir well before use and use 1 coat only
Excellent key on virtually any substrate.
Highly durable.
Can be placed in sub-zero temperatures

It can help a great deal in the adhesion especially to a surface that is not particularly porous and can compensate a little where your mix may not be 100%. Not a professional plasterer but found this really easy to skim over old finish as well as undercoat plasters.

I used a roller as had big area to do. Other than the price, it is excellent stuff and in some respects it may just be worth prepping a wall with it regardless, just for peace of mind, especially if you are not a professional tiler or plasterer.
