love is for losers

Reviews

Kristel Greer

Phoebe is a little narcotic and self-absorbed but she is a realistic character with so much depth and raw emotion that you can't help getting drawn into her story and loving her intensely. It was a complete joy from start to finish and I read it straight through in one sitting. Phoebe is feeling abandoned by her mother, neglected by her boyfriend obsessed friend Polly and has no direction in life.

Phoebe is not your average teenager. When Phoebe needs to pay off a debt to Kate, she agrees to work at her Cancer charity shop and that’s where she meets Emma – the beautiful, cool and caring girl who throws a spanner in the works of her plan to focus solely on GCSE exams and avoiding a love life.

The idea of love repulses her as it's only for LOSERS! I would recommend for 13+. She is standoffish, brusque and speaks her mind, even if it hurts the ones closest to her.

As time passes, her connection with Emma grows deeply but Phoebe starts to wonder whether her feelings for Emma is mere friendship or if she is falling in love with her. She never contemplated being attracted to a girl before and her feelings are sending her out of her comfort zone.

Phoebe tries to deal with studying, her attraction to Emma, her mother leaving, her failing friendship and the truth about her father but her usual method of keeping people at arm's length backfires when tragedy strikes and she suddenly can't cope on her own. I was sent a copy of the book to review.
