It worths every penny. Parts felt more obviously YA than others— Lake felt very immature at times + the fact she was only 18 was reflected in her behaviour, whereas Will was the total opposite + I kept forgetting he was only 21. . Thank you!

But. I was in the final year that was allowed to take our copy of the anthologies with all our notes in, and I have to say that teacher probably helped with my A grade in this section!

As with Colleens other books, I inhaled this one. ultimately I felt the intensity + believability was missing.

It gave me major Tom Macdonald vibes 🙌🏼 (a spoken word artist). The next year they had to take a fresh copy with no student notes 🤷‍♀️ I think if I had a teacher who took us to a poetry slam, I might have enjoyed it more!

at uni maybe? Don’t hesitate, just read it! It sounds exciting to hear people express themselves in this way and I might have felt like having a go! I had no idea this was Colleen’s DEBUT novel, but on reflection can also see how much her writing style has developed in recent years.

The 2nd and 3rd ones are at Barnes and Noble if anyone is looking for the rest. If you like CoHo books, you will love this one! In true CoHo fashion, SLAMMED is an emotional love story, with plenty of twists thrown in + revolved around slam poetry, which was a really engaging added concept. A must buy product.

So the twist that happened in this story which halts their relationship, isn’t normally a storyline I would go for. However it didn’t bother me at all in this storyline as the characters meet and interact before the big revelation and I was already hooked on the book and loving the characters! I think this was down to a mixture of their ages + the major insta-love at the start of the book. 5/5 ⭐️Recommend ✅
